Glitch Allows to See the Random Queue Dungeon You Will Get

$

0

During the last days a new glitch gained traction in the game that allows players to see what dungeon they’ll get when queuing up for the random queue. You might have witnessed an increased amount of lfg requests for the “Advanced Queue” or “Expert Queue” that also list a specific dungeon (most likely EDEMO and TONG). That’s because players figured out that the drawn dungeon hides in plain sight, kind of. But hey, you’re not getting details from us because we don’t want people to get all butthurt again. The cats out the bag anyway since both bigger Neverwinter Subs opened threads on the issue.

The fact that even the official sub allows talk about the topic might indicate that this is not seen as a severe issue. But who knows. PWE could very well send out a message to a limited amount of players in three months that they are aware of an exploit regarding the queue system and will ban for it. Anyway, this type of issue with the random queue isn’t new. For a limited time, players could already guess what dungeon they would get because the game would show the number of total players in the queue. So ten players meant you were getting a trial for example. That got patched, but the current issue brings peeking at random queue results back! This time it’s even the dungeon itself, not just the amount of players. So far this is only confirmed for PC by the way.

Random Queue System Still Has Flaws

In a more general sense this indicates that the random queue system still has some flaws. Although the Ravenloft rework did help a little bit, the fundamental issue is still intact. Since it’s one of the major sources of Rough Astral Diamonds and hence farm content, players are looking for the fastest completion. And the content inside the different queues is still not equally hard or equally fast to complete. That’s why players like to shortcut by doing what they feel is the most convenient way of getting a through the grind.

Neverwinter to Fix Double Companion Glitch in M15

Programmers Hate It! There is no longer One Weird Trick to summon multiple copies of the same companion.Patch Notes

In one of the recent “Heart of Fire” patch notes a pretty interesting line hid between other random stuff. You might have noticed the above statement about the ability to summon two companions, or two copies of your active companion. What might sound like a weird coincidence is actually a reproducible glitch that’s been around since Swords of Chult (Module 12b).

A source contacted us early in August and send over a bunch of videos showing them running around with two companions. We’ve since been looking into the case and could confirm the unintended behavior. People ingame have stumbled upon this bug because it can indeed happen accidentally when switching loadouts. Most thought it’s just a visual glitch because the additional pets disappear on certain circumstances which happen frequently. But the second summoned companion does indeed grant you some stats. It’s not 100% of your Bondings, but our source was able to get an additional 50k HP and 2k Crit for example. For obvious reasons this seems to be especially effective on Power sharing builds.

It’s Neither Reliable, Nor Constantly Reproducible

Did you know that Uncensored runs the biggest Discord of Neverwinter? Come join our team, streamers and hundreds of players to talk the site and all facets of the game!

While running around with two active companions seems like a pretty severe exploit, it’s actually not. First of all the process of summoning two pets requires you to buy a loadout for ZEN. Which means you are only able to reproduce this bug eight times (you can’t “discard” active loadout slots). Second of all the additional companion vanishes on death or any map change. This makes it rather obvious why it’s merely a funny glitch and not really an exploitable bug. If you’re one of those hardcore legits however that’s also your chance to get rid of the pet quickly. This bug by the way also explains the abandoned companions that remain in their instances indefinitely.

So if you see players running around with two companions, you know it’s not just a visual thing. The bug is confirmed for both PC and Xbox and we will add more videos and descriptions at a later point. So stay tuned!

Exploit History Vol. 21: Arcgames Vanilla Software Post Leak

Exploit History Banner

Today’s episode of our Exploit History is a different one, because we’re not actually talking about ingame stuff. The bug however was nonetheless directly related to the game because it allowed pretty much everyone to read postings on the Arcgames Vanilla forum software that they shouldn’t have access to. As often the cause was fairly simple as one particular API call of the Vanilla software bypassed the permission system.

Getquote Bypassed Permission System

Whenever a user uses the “Quote” function, the forum sends a request to the server to retrieve the post and put it into the reply box. That call did fully ignore permissions and was able to retrieve any discussion, comment, or user reports. We saw dumps from the forum with posts we definitely shouldn’t have access to.

The structure in which we received the data didn’t allow us to completely understand where quotes where coming from. But we’re pretty sure all private areas of the forum, including mod talk and user reports, could be accessed this way. And we can’t fully rule out private messages either, although that seems unlikely. The bug has since been fixed, and PWE never acknowledged the massive hole in the software they use. No actual user data was affected by the way, but nobody should obviously be too thrilled that all posts got exposed. The report war behind the scenes for example is nothing to be proud of…

Heart of Fire Launch Issues Include Hilarious Experience Glitch

Launch weeks are always one of the more busy ones in a developer’s calendar and here’s why: Issues! Heart of Fire naturally didn’t go live without a healthy dose as well and we’ll try to quickly highlight the most important ones in this article.

Workshop Issues

Eagerly getting into the new Workshop system didn’t exactly turn out that joyful for players that chose “Callum” as their initial retainer. The very first intro quests offers a wide range of possible retainers that do not have any gameplay impact. Picking Callum however will get the quest line into a stuck state and you cannot progress. This will be fixed on Thursday. In the meantime, do not pick him as your retainer!

There are also a few minor issues outlined by Janne here. Those have already been reported on preview, but apparently were not important enough to get fixed in time for the live build. The most severe of those is that the same Artisans can still apply even if already hired. That’s a bug and shouldn’t happen. Also getting a fix on Thursday are some disconnect issues on the Workshop map.

Illusionist’s Gambit and New Leveling Reward = Fail!

You know what you shouldn’t do when handing out additional rewards for leveling up? Leaving a major XP glitch in the game! But that’s what the devs did. Illusionist’s Gambit allowed players to complete Bronze in a private queue for some substantial experience gain. This has been going on for quite some time and was well known. Obviously with the new leveling rewards in place, players soon figured the best way to level up and started exploiting experience in scaling content. As reaction Cryptic has deactivated the skirmish in private queues. Whoops.

How About Those Item Levels?

Another delivery out of the giggle department are the updated item levels of Stronghold Weapons. Some haven’t been updated at all which isn’t too funny to be honest. But lower qualities featuring higher item levels than legendary certainly is, and that’s exactly what happened to some. Please do not fall for scammers that want to sell you the bugged weapons by the way. Just wait for Thursday to sort out the mess.

Speaking of sorting out! The Auction House can’t any longer. Sorting is all messed up and looking up the cheapest items and such turns out be to quite a pain at the moment. Again the advise is to wait until Thursday’s maintenance to not accidentally pay more ADs than you should!

Neverwinter Fixes Dupe Exploit and Avoids Major Gold Glitch in Module 15

$

In what could be labeled a special edition of our “Exploit History“, we’d like to talk about two very recent and potentially very dreadful bugs. Both could have turned out devastating, but one never gained too much publicity and the other one was fixed just in time before causing trouble.

Duping Exploit in Cradle

The first one was a duping exploit that allowed players to duplicate items in the Cradle of the Death Gods trial. This has been going on for a while, but we’re not sure whether individuals have actually exploited the bug. Most fascinating, duplicating items didn’t even require a complicated procedure to run through. Editing game files? Following a very distinctive pattern? Force lag? No, no, and no. Apparently all you had to do was trade items on the elevator platform.

We cannot logically explain how something like this could happen, but it’s certainly one of the more perplexing unintended effects. So far we could only confirm both the bug and the fix for the PC version of the game by the way. We contacted PWE to get to know the state of the console version, but they failed to reply in a timely manner.

Gold Glitch and Workshops

The other nearly catastrophic glitch remained unfixed on the preview server for quite some time. As the picture shows, you were able to buy certain Tools from the Module 15 Professions Vendor for less than you could sell them, effectively allowing infinite Gold production. Since the Workshop system makes Gold a much more important resource, we’re sure this wouldn’t have ended too well. But in literally the last second the devs made the necessary adjustment and included a fix in the very last build before Module 15 went live.

Neverwinter definitely dodged two bullets here, right? What’s your take on these two exploits? Share your thoughts and experience on our social channels, in the comments below, or visit our message board!

Devs Acknowledge Hunt Exploit, Say There Will Be Bans

$

It’s safe to say that it’s been turbulent times in the Tarokka printing industry. Strahd Limited, the leading producer of Tarokka cards north of Waterdeep, suddenly saw orders decline sharply only weeks after an insanely successful market launch. Heads at Castle Ravenloft HQ quickly gathered and tried to identify their apparent competitor, but were unable to find anyone! They still had the monopoly on the cards, but customers simply didn’t seem to need them any longer.

Struggling for answers, some workers were put on short-time work. Others never showed up again after a meeting with Strahd himself. He later said they quit voluntarily, but we spoke to at least one family member that claims nobody ever saw their relatives again! Sources inside the company said that the tension continued to rise in recent weeks. Some executives completely lost their head (quite literally!) and restructuring into a garlic bread facility failed due to the boss’ inability to test the product.

When all seemed lost, the government stepped in and released a statement yesterday that could save the company:

We are aware of an exploit being used in the Barovia Hunts that bypasses the intended gameplay and are working on getting a patch out for this as quickly as possible. We will be reviewing playlogs and any character found using the exploit will be subject to possible actions taken against player accounts as per our Terms of Service.nitocris83 (CM)

RIP Hunt Exploit

Ok folks, enough of the nonsense! The Hunt Exploit on consoles is no longer. Cryptic additionally wants to let you know that they plan to punish offenders. Here’s a quick recap of what happened: The exploit allowed to run Hunts without losing any Tarokka Cards and bugging the target in one location. It had been active on PC since the Ravenloft launch and not fixed until recently. Unfortunately the fix also led to leaking details to the console crowd. And as it turned out, the bug was still very much active there. So exploiting Hunts on Xbox and PS4 quickly became the norm.

Exploit Handling Still Hilarious

Cryptic now seems to be have fixed the loophole. While that’s generally a good thing, leading into this article with some humor actually wasn’t by accident. Because the way the devs handle these exploits still remains a hilarious mystery. It was pretty much known and used on PC for months. Yet they were unable to include the fix on consoles initially. And now, more than two weeks after the Xbox/PS4 launch, after everyone and their mother already has exploited Hunts, they finally get an announcement out and threaten with bans.

You’re very much talking about worsening the situation. Because if an exploit is live for that long, it turns into a feature and it gets increasingly more difficult for legit players to withstand. If everyone is doing it anyway, why bother? Of course Cryptic can always pitch their “Terms of Service” (as they did yesterday) and refer to the fact that exploiting is not allowed. But what’s an exploit fully depends on what Cryptic classifies as such. So you pretty much never know. Some players think that if you’re unsure, you simply shouldn’t do it and wait for a clarification. That’s a flawed approach of course, because if it’s an exploit nobody will tell you anyway. And in case it’s not, you might still wait weeks for an answer, not being able to participate in whatever activity.

Low Priority Until Leaked to the Public

That said, the Hunt thing was described as “exploit” by us, so it’s not like you can talk yourself out of it (sorry!). However, had Cryptic dealt with the issue more transparently, it wouldn’t be such a mess. Why didn’t they? Well, because public exploits almost certainly come with a bunch of extra work. You have to fix the bug asap, review logs, and hand out bans. If only a few players know and do the exploit, you only have to silently patch it at some point and move on.

Of course that never works. Over time word spreads and so you’ll have to put in the work anyway. So it would have been much better to inform players at launch that there is a known Hunt exploit that they better not use. What would be fair now is to only sanction players that did the exploit after their announcement. And that doesn’t even consider the fact that only very few players read the forum. If folks tell you they genuinely didn’t know, what reasoning other than “we can ban as we please” do you even have?

Unfortunate Circumstances?

Of course all of that could very well be unfortunate circumstances. Let’s say they knew about the exploit early, but had trouble fixing it on PC earlier. When they did, it was already too late to push the fix on the final console launch, but they still wanted to get it out on PC as soon as possible. Then everything leaked and bang. Sure, shit happens. But it’s not the first time Cryptic wasn’t able to react in a timely fashion, which always raises suspicions that the problem is more deeply rooted with how they generally deal with such incidents.

Anyway, you folks will have to find legit ways to do get your Hunt rewards now! We’ll also keep you posted in case we hear anything about bans or suspensions.

Neverwinter Bans Players for Scamming

$

Huntgate might be behind us (although we still haven’t fully gotten over its negative impacts), but there’s other stuff you can get banned for. Like scamming other players! At least that’s what an exchange from the customer service suggests that a player posted on our Discord.

First of all it’s quite funny that the Game Master threatens the recipient with “further action on this account” when it is apparently already perma-banned. Lesson: Don’t blindly use templates! More than that though, some might be surprised to see the reason (“violation”) that led to the perma. It states “Openly Admitting to Scamming Other Players”. We’re not sure what the “scam” was and why “openly admitting” plays a role here. Bragging about stuff like this certainly isn’t too smart, but it shouldn’t be a decisive factor.

Scamming by the way is indeed sanctioned by the official Terms of Service in Section 15.2j:

Without limiting the foregoing, in addition to the User Content rules set forth in Section 16, you agree not to […] engage in any actions that defraud or attempt to defraud, scam or cheat others out of any items that have been earned through authorized game play.

Have Legit Auction House High-Rollers Been Hit?

What is and isn’t scamming is obviously subject to interpretation, as anything in the ToS. You can certainly debate over some stuff that’s happening on the Auction House. Players for example try to post items in a way that others may accidentally buy them for much over their value when bulk-buying certain categories. Sometimes also outdated or worthless items are posted for millions and advertised as must-have stuff. While that’s annoying, it’s the first time we hear someone getting banned for “scamming”.

More than that, some players insist that some legit Auction House high-rollers have been hit as well. Those people basically execute a “buy low, sell high” strategy and sometimes control categories or the entire market by mass-buying out certain items only to repost them for much more. That can hardly be labeled scamming, it’s just economics. For now it’s just vague rumors, but some players already brought up their theories of the devs trying to specifically target the long-term player base since Huntgate.

It might be too early to go there yet, but we will of course keep you guys posted with any new developments! In the meantime, don’t get caught (or brag about) scamming others. Because you could lose your account in the process!

Patch Note Parser: NW.105.20181022a.18 – Gold Task Nerfs Incoming!

Neverwinter Uncensored’s patch note parser runs through any bigger patch notes and offers additional context to the changes that were made to the game. Today we are taking a closer look into version “NW.105.20181022a.18“, in which we’d like to highlight two major changes / fixes to the Workshop system that will majorly impact players.

RIP Gold Mine

Supplements now have different gold values at different supplement levels.
Did you know that Uncensored runs the biggest Discord of Neverwinter? Come join our team, streamers and hundreds of players to talk the site and all facets of the game!

Well, it was fun while it lasted. The gold mine discovered by Rainer goes out of business as all Supplements are changed from giving a flat 25 Silver to level-dependent values. Or to put it bluntly: Supplements now sell for less than you produce them for, effectively ending the farm using those tasks. We think it can probably be classified as oversight and not a true nerf. Being able to amass so much Gold probably wasn’t what the devs intended when designing the new Workshop system. Player were literally able to “craft” thousands of Gold per day using multiple alts on big accounts.

As result Gold prices plummeted and the market crashed, which was quite hilarious given the importance of the currency in the Workshop system. Anyway, now players will have to find other ways of making enough Gold to keep their Workshop running. There are still tasks that dish out a net gain, but it’s nowhere near to what Supplements were able to produce.

Delivery Box Glitch Fix

Players can no longer store more orders in the Delivery Box than there is space for, under certain circumstances.

The ability to amass gold was additionally bolstered by a glitch of the Delivery Box. The system allows players to batch run a certain amount of tasks when they’re not online. But once their box is filled, tasks are supposed to stop. Turns out that wasn’t really the case in some situations. Upon logging in all “queued” tasks were sometimes completing successively with a short delay and could be claimed. All players had to do was make sure that their box never fully filled, because that would stop the process of instant completions. That was obviously a bug as well and is getting fixed.

Along with the aforementioned correction to Gold sell values of Supplements, the Gold market should recovery quickly. It also means that you should hold on to any currency you have left.

PWE Can’t Avoid Making the Same Mistakes; Shuts Door on Winter Charge Rewards Key Glitch

$
0
0

It’s that time of the year again! We come together, remember what we’re thankful for, and also have to mess around with the official customer support because the devs apparently like to repeat their own mistakes! Players that eagerly rushed to charge ZEN and get their hands on the new Winter Charge Rewards soon realized that the promised items weren’t delivered. The devs have since fixed the issue and you should receive all stuff after charging ZEN now. Unfortunately the fix was not retroactive. Everyone missing their rewards has to go through official support.

That’s already annoying, especially since support might not get back to you before Monday. But it gets increasingly frustrating considering that the exact same thing happened last year as well. We’re not sure this is a matter of Cryptic and PWE not being on the same page or somebody simply forgetting to activate the event. But either way it would be kinda cool if stuff was working for once. Granted, it’s not a big thing, but lots of small issues can stack up to a sizeable pile as well. And hey, these type of repeated hiccups certainly never look great.

Winter Charge Rewards Glitch

Even if you charged your currency after the fix, you might not get all the rewards by the way! That’s because players realized you could claim the included 5 Enchanted Keys on multiple characters. You could even create new chars, claim the pack, delete them, and repeat the process. That obviously wasn’t intended as the rewards are always a one-time claim. First standard protocol applied and all talk about the glitch was censored, but then the devs made the right choice, quickly acknowledged their mistake through an official post by the mods and were also able to deactivate the affected reward tier.

We were recently made aware of an issue in which multiple characters on the same account could claim the Lockbox Key Pack from the Promotion Agent. For the time being, we have disabled claiming the first tier of Charge Rewards. This will be re-enabled in a later update, likely in approximately two weeks.

Good: Nobody can unintentionally claim more keys! Bad: Nobody can claim any keys! For now charging 1,000 ZEN won’t come with the extra benefits. You will however eventually get the keys unless you already claimed them. So for the second year in a row the Winter Charge Rewards started off on the wrong foot. Overall it’s a little disappointing that there are two separate issues with a product that involves real money from players, but we are thick-skinned by now, aren’t we? Let’s just hope handing out all rewards doesn’t take as long as with the infamous Bonus Companion Rewards. In the meantime, you can still enjoy your Thanksgiving weekend and the flurry of other sales and promotions the game has to offer.

Players Report Tymora’s Spinning Coin and Waukeen’s Horde Artifact Damage Loops

$

The devs made updates to older events one of their key elements in Module 15. Pretty much all the bigger events received at least some new rewards. That’s great, unless one of those annoying bugs sneaks in and spoils the fun for everyone. This seems to be the case with the new event Artifacts Tymora’s Spinning Coin and Waukeen’s Horde. We have to wait for the next instance of Waukeen a little longer, but Tymora is running on PC right now and the rewards very obtainable. Here’s the original bug report that has since been removed from the official Arcgames message board (still viewable in our ARC Undelete database by the way):

Both of them cause an insane damage loop in dominion at last. I’ve seen this happen more and more, you run in 5 vs 1 on any node, 5 player will be wiped out on artifact usage. The first one used by a dc, 5 vs 1 , the 5 one all pvp player , so not pve build, new tymora’s artifact in this case. Don’t know what the dc was using in that moment, but wiping out 5 bis player alone with a dc is not possible. The second one has a similar effect, even if in this case the kill is not istant, i’ve see at last 3 big proc from it, was used by an SW, he was not attaking, just showing the broken effect of the artifact. Artifact activation, 3 proc of damage, campfire.

The poster also attached this ACT parse and mentioned that both Artifacts fully scale with buffs, making the potential damage even higher. We’re certainly not talking one-shot possibility in PVE here, but you can easily see why those numbers cause trouble in PVP.

Bug Known Since Preview

This is not something that’s hitting the game out of the blue by the way. The bug was well-known and documented on preview already, and the first post about it during the live phase came about ten days ago. Now it seems the bug is prominent enough that the devs have to move it higher up their priority list (if they aren’t working on it already anyway). We surely hope they will be able to track and fix it asap.

For the Tymora event it could mean that the Artifact itself sells over value at the moment. Many players want to get a look at the bugged version firsthand or think they have to use it in PVP because everyone does. Needless to say that this will get corrected at some point and that the market will eventually settle. So if you want to buy one, it might make sense to wait a little longer.

Players That Buy a Race Pack Are Unable to Replenish Workshop Morale

$

Yesterday we talked about the bugged launch of Neverwinter’s Hart of Fire module and Cryptic compensating players for it. Today we unfortunately have another annoying bug to report that majorly affects player Workshops. Apparently nobody that buys a race pack from the ZEN Market can replenish morale in their Workshops. The store doesn’t have any options and just says that it’s empty and you should “finish transactions and reopen the store”.

Player first tracked down the issue to buying the “Drow Race Pack” from the ZEN Market, but other race packs seems to be equally affected. Why buying a race pack has any bearing for Workshop Morale is weird to say the least. But at this point we’re way to familiar with strange bugs, aren’t we?

Distinct Disadvantage on the Market

Those that have bought a race pack during the big Thanksgiving sale now have to wait for a fix. Others should obviously avoid grabbing one for now, at least if you use the Workshop Morale replenish system. This is especially annoying for Masterwork crafters. Those usually don’t care for the attached AD costs and rush all tasks. Being unable to do so means you’re capped to 400 Morale per day, which is a distinct disadvantage on the market. As always we hope that this will get tackled fast and players will be able to use their Workshop as intended.

Duping items is probably one of the worst nightmares of developers. Bugs can be annoying to game-breaking, but nothing is as threatening to a game and its economy than players being able to literally create items or currency out of thin air. Caturday was such an example and the Astral Resonator exploit as well.

Although the above is not strictly “duping”, there have also always been rumblings about legitimate methods to duplicate items. Players allegedly figured out ways to create and exploit artificial lag, or mail items from the preview to the live server by manipulating game files. More recently, we could verify duping within the Cradle of the Death God trial and now got pitched a report that could hint at something that could be classified as “social duping”.

Support Exchange Hints at Social Duping

We got approached a couple days ago with an exchange that shows support restoring a deleted character. It’s a multi-step process in which the staffer first reinstates the deleted character in question and then additionally rolls it back by 24 hours because of missing gear. What looks like a normal day in the office is actually a deceitful way of duping items.

Because what support doesn’t know (and apparently neither cares to check) is that the character held a full inventory of high-rank enchants for a short period of time. The player would then move the items to a different account, delete the character, and request a restoration. Here’s the full process of the trickery:

  1. Pick a level 70 character that you don’t mind being deleted.
  2. Fill the inventory with enchants or other items of high value.
  3. Wait for at least 24 hours and then send the items to another account.
  4. Delete some random gear or artifacts and wait another couple hours.
  5. Delete the character and contact support about how an important char of yours got accidentally deleted. It’s important to not take responsibility yourself, blame it on a third party or whatever.
  6. Support will restore the toon.
  7. Complain about missing gear and that you’re absolutely not able to play the character in its current state.
  8. Support rolls back the character 24 hours.
  9. Your full inventory is back and all items are now duplicated because you’ve sent them to a second account in step 3).

Decking out Multiple Toons with High-Level Items

This obviously raises some serious questions. Apparently support never checked the character that they were about to restore. Otherwise they might have figured that a random alt full of high-end items isn’t the norm. Further looking into the toon’s activity and transactions then of course would have revealed that the inventory was fully moved to a different account before deletion. That’s probably suspicious enough to halt the process, especially given the player pressing hard for a 24-hour rollback. It’s also interesting that nobody noticed an influx of restoration requests that all followed a very similar script.

For the deceiver in the meantime, there was little risk other than losing a random toon. Even if support refused to restore the character, your items were save. According to our information the first attempts of tricking support started as early as 2017 and heavy exploiting continued for roughly half a year. There might however still be players out there that try to use this method.

Most were careful enough to not do this extensively and raise suspicions. If pulled off correctly, one try was enough to deck out multiple toons with high-level enchantments anyway. So it’s not like you had to repeat it that often unless you were getting greedy.

Clueless Support, No Security Checks

It might sound too crazy to be true, but on the other hand the approach makes way too much sense. And as mentioned we have indeed seen support exchanges that absolutely fit the script. So we do not have much doubt that the presented information isn’t true. It’s a hilarious way to trick support. You almost want to pat the scammers’ on their back for their creativity and boldness. At the same time it’s shocking how naive PWE seems to operate.

It’s probably also a symptom of staffers not necessarily knowing any details about the games they support. This is often by design to avoid bias, but in this particular case it came back to bite them hard. To a lesser extent it additionally shows the lack of automated security checks within the game. If anyone tries to restore an item that’s technically still in the game, you might assume that some algorithm would prevent that or at least trigger some manual verification. But apparently nobody thought about it or didn’t feel like it could be necessary. This incident however should give Perfect World more than enough reason to question and improve their processes and routines. The deceit obviously was only possible due to severe oversights and a general lack of diligence.

The Full Extent Is Unknown

The full extent is unknown to us. It could be something that only a small group of players did, but also have spread beyond what we know so far. It’s safe to assume however that selected (groups of) players did this more than once and amassed high-end items by playing support rather than the game. We are very fortunate that this leaked by the way. Such major exploits are normally kept within a small circle to limit the risk of disclosure. The most severe things are those that you do not know of.

Although this should go without saying: Now that the method is out in the open, please don’t be stupid enough to try it. Your account will most definitely get locked.

Reports Claim Hunt Exploit Is Very Much Active and Bans Are Still Happening

We can probably agree that Huntgate did enough damage to the game and that we’re so ready to move on, right? Unfortunately it looks like the whole mess might extend into New Year. There are solid indications that the exploit is still very much active. Ever since the initial wave of bans players send isolated reports claiming that the devs never fully fixed the glitch. Now we’re convinced enough to report that this is indeed the case.

The Bug Was Never Fully Fixed

Did you know that Uncensored runs the biggest Discord of Neverwinter? Come join our team, streamers and hundreds of players to talk the site and all facets of the game!

Our assumption is that the devs never got rid of the actual issue of targets getting stuck and Tarokka Cards not getting properly consumed. They only prevented players to use kill commands to enter the hunt zone prematurely. This obviously means that the glitch is indeed very much alive if somebody still figures out how to get in. And if some reports we received are true, there are still ways to do so. Now this won’t probably blow up like last time, but it’s worth mentioning that despite all the publicity it generated, the glitch is still not fixed.

More than that, PWE does apparently actively monitor activities and continues to ban players that use the glitch. Now we can start the whole discussion of who’s to blame again, but at the moment you definitely don’t want to get in touch with exploited Hunts at all. Because your first infraction might be your last. Of course it would be best if that goddamn exploit wouldn’t be possible any longer, you know? But at this point it would surprise us if it’ll happen before the holidays.

Of course, most that currently still try the exploit probably do it fraudulently. But as long as the game pretends the situation is resolved when it’s clearly not, you can’t rule out innocents getting caught up in Huntgate. That’s why we think that players are aware of the situation. If you feel that someone in your hunt group only tries to do something suspicious, considers leaving the group immediately. You don’t want to complete a bugged Hunt or you risk a ban!

Masterwork Progression Features yet Another Annoying Bug That Highlights Heart of Fire Struggles

We’ve talked plenty about the ongoing “Heart of Fire” launch struggles and today we’d like to highlight yet another bug that’s a major annoyance. One of the key features of the Workshop system was the introduction of so-called “+1” results. Those are small upgrades of normal recipe successes. The devs tweaked many quests so that those now require players to craft +1 results. Unfortunately however they left others untouched, which currently creates a major issue within Masterwork progression.

The main example here are the quest lines leading up to the Masterwork II unlocks. +1 items simply do not count towards the quests, which makes completing them a major pain. +1 successes are meant to be definite upgrades to normal ones and hence it makes no sense to avoid them. That’s why Proficiency and Focus level up simultaneously for the most part. It’s impossible to achieve 100% Proficiency and 0% Focus, which would be ideal to craft “non +1” items.

More Focus Equals Less Chance

Did you know that Uncensored runs the biggest Discord of Neverwinter? Come join our team, streamers and hundreds of players to talk the site and all facets of the game!

It’s obviously a logical flaw. Nobody can fully avoid +1 items, at least not in a way that makes sense. For Masterwork progression however, you have to. Sometimes it’s even better to not get too much Focus. The graph below shows the chance of getting a non +1 item for different Proficiency and Focus probabilities. A level 70 Artisan and Forgehammer should give you 75% / 50% for a typical Masterwork recipe. That results in a measly 38% chance to get the item you want. Switching to lower Focus and Proficiency values can boost your chance to up to 50%.

You can use the chart to find the sweet spot of completing the progression quests. What you want to do is get as much Proficiency without a chance to get a high-quality result. Even if though, you’re currently paying more than you should. It’s really unfortunate because many players probably thought about getting into Masterworks within the new Workshop system. But currently they run into a weird situation with the MWII unlocks.

Asterdahl Acknowledged the Issue, but No Fix Imminent

The devs by the way did acknowledge the issue, although the reasoning is a little strange. Asterdahl noted that this is in fact intentional “to not further increase the difficulty of the quests” until they have figured out a way for quests to take both normal and +1 results. We’re not sure how smaller success rates with higher level assets are supposed to make stuff easier to complete (and understand) though. He’s right that you can use lower level assets, but it’s still not logical. The comment about selling high-quality results is also inaccurate since some of the harder to acquire items bind to character. So all you can do is discard them.

Thank you for the feedback. We chose not to require the high-quality results for these quests, so as not to further increase the difficulty of the masterwork quests in comparison with the pre-overhaul difficulty of these quests. Unfortunately there is no simple way to allow the quest to take either or a combination of high and normal quality results, as they are discreetly different items on the back end. We do plan to address this issue, however, it will take some time. In the meantime, if you do end up with any high-quality results we hope that you can manage to sell these on the auction house for a profit. If you use normal quality materials to make the items, your high-quality chance shouldn’t be so high that this creates a serious issue. I apologize for the inconvenience in the meantime.

These are the type of little inconsistencies and annoyances that unfortunately have plagued the “Heart of Fire” release. We most definitely hope this will get addressed rather sooner than later so that everyone can level up Masterworks without the additional roadblock.

Consoles Experiencing a Crucial Vendor Sell Issue Since M15 Launch

Console players currently need to make sure they aren’t getting scammed in Neverwinter. Not by players though, but by the game’s merchants! Because a nasty bug can lead to unintentionally selling all items. Community Manager Julia has acknowledged and described the issue on the message board.

We are aware of an issue with the Vendor UI where pressing the square (on PS4) button or the X (On Xbox One) while on the Buy tab will bring up a “Sell All” prompt. If a player accepts this prompt, it will sell all sellable items in the player’s inventory. The buyback may not include all items that were sold.

It might sound funny, but can be super destructive, because as mentioned you might not even be able to get all your items back through the buyback option. The reason is that the system only tracks the last 30(-ish) items. Everything else will be lost. That’s why Producer Terramak also spread the news on Discord. They are currently trying to hot-patch this without having to go through a full certification process, which usually that takes two weeks. Until it is fixed, it might be wise to stay away from vendors or at least be super careful what you are doing.

Not the Start We Were Hoping For

Of course this is not the start into console module 15 we were hoping for. The PC release was already plagued by a multitude of small and major issues and this adds to the struggle. For those that wanted to experience the new module and now instead have lost essential gear or items from their inventories, it’s obviously super annoying. Thankfully not everything is sellable, otherwise the extent would be even greater.

The ones that already ran into the issue have no choice but to contact support. They will be able to restore your characters, but it might take a couple days.
